I am a consumer protection and antitrust attorney, an expert on AI safety and child protection, and community advocate. I am also a proud PTA mom of three kids, and the daughter of a farmworker who was first in her family to go to college. Because experience and representation matter, I am running to serve the 32nd legislative district in Olympia.
For nearly 20 years, I was an antitrust and consumer protection attorney in the Washington office of the Federal Trade Commission where I took on Facebook and other corporate giants to protect our kids’ privacy and wellbeing, keep grocery prices low, stop companies’ lies about environmental protection, and prevent corporate landlords from using AI to hike rents. I spent my career in federal service fighting for us, and I left that career to keep up the fight in Olympia. We have an opportunity in Washington to stop Big Tech from running wild with AI and harming kids and our wellbeing, just as social media has. The other Washington isn’t going to stop Big Tech. We have to do it ourselves.
I was in Ukraine just before Russia attacked, having served for years as a representative of the United States and technical advisor to the Ukrainian government on economics and anti-corruption. I know firsthand the preciousness of freedom and democracy and the real threats from autocrats and oligarchs. I will never back down from a fight to protect freedom and fairness.
Closer to home, I’ve spent five years as a PTA advocate for my kids’ public schools. I’ve united parents, students, and translators to advocate in Olympia for education funding, food security, and safe schools. Last year, I was a fellow at the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public and researched misinformation, democracy, and market failures.
No other candidate combines my experience as a PTA mom, grassroots organizer, union member, and consumer protection lawyer, with a strong record taking on powerful companies that cut corners on safety. I’ve fought for responsible technology, better health outcomes, and against monopoly abuses that drive up costs, and I will use that experience to fight for you in Olympia.
